Notes on Core learning in Literacy objectives
The Dfes standards site provides the new framework with planning ideas for each year group. T here are many ideas where Picture the Music can be used. For example in Year 4 Narrative Unit 2 - Stories set in imaginary worlds
Use images to discuss character responses to settings. Construct a narrative using the images, and drawing on common features and themes of stories set in fantasy settings. Organise the story into paragraphs and identify how cohesion is created within and across paragraphs.Picture the music fits this perfectly and with the added motivation and inspiration of music!
It is worth looking through the planning section of the site especially at the creative writing units - Narrative and Poetry - you will find many ideas where Picture the Music can help. Just be inventive! You will see how flexible and useful Picture the Music is at fitting in with plans that you may want to change a little and make more exciting.
Obviously you can make your own unique lessons to cover the unit plans from scratch!
Keep checking back as special lesson plans for specific objectives will be posted here for you to download and use. Don’t forget to use the Forum to share any ideas that you may have tried with other teachers. We are always interested to hear about work that you have done with all year groups.

Using Picture the Music fits perfectly into many areas of the curriculum. The most obvious link, however, is within the literacy strategy.
The links below highlight the major objectives in the literacy strategy that can easily be covered using Picture the Music. There is also information on what medium term plan these objectives are from.
Refer to the Literacy strategy itself or visit: http://www.standards.dfes.gov.uk/primary/literacy/ for updated information.
