About / Why pictures and music?

The beginning of any creative process involves ideas.

By looking carefully at a picture it is easy to collect ideas from what you see - colours, textures, objects etc.

Music gives these pictures atmosphere. The way we perceive an image changes depending on the type of music/sound that accompanies it.

Picture the Music Create is a simple tool that produces remarkable results.

The four major skills involved in Picture the Music are:

Look

Observation is an essential skill needed to gather ideas. The more you look the more you see - and the more you see the more detail you can gather from the image.

Listen

The way the mind responds to sound is profound and instant. Sound makes us feel things - think of how film uses it to create atmosphere and mood. Picture the Music Create taps into this human response.

Think

The ideas that come need to be organised. Students use thought maps to do this. They soon realise that from one idea can come many. Ideas are the food of the creative mind.

Create

The ideas collected can now be used for a host of creative outcomes - if the ideas form a narrative - write, tell or animate it. Draw pictures, write poems, compose music - the outcomes are up to you.
