Unlock the creative potential in children through pictures and music.

This course is designed and delivered by Philip Davis. It is based around the software resource Picture the Music Create and will give you the techniques to use this powerful teaching method. You will see how using pictures along with music can open up possibilities in creative writing, creative thinking, drama,music composition and more.

It is a highly practical day where you will surprise yourself. You will discover your possibilities not your limitations. You will feel inspired to take these methods and try them with your class the very next day.

If you have been on Philip’s The Creative Classroom day and want to go into more depth or if you just want to learn an effective, inspirational and motivational learning method then this is the day for you.

At the end of the day you will:

Course Outline

Session 1 - Skills

In this session you will learn about the 3 key skills involved in Picture the Music Create. You will discover how to use thought maps to organise ideas.

You will then be taken through the software and shown how to design your own creative multi sensory lessons. You will learn about all the features in this powerful learning tool.

Session 2 - Applications

In this session you will be shown, and try out, different ideas. You will see how to design a lesson from scratch. You will discover how to use just music to create wonderful thoughts and ideas.

This session will enable you to become confident in using Picture the Music Create. You will be given a chance to discuss how you could apply these techniques to your own situation.

Session 3 - Creations

This is a highly practical session where you will learn how to create a composition project using Picture the Music.

Philip will show you methods to develop composition skills that are easy to use in the classroom for all teachers - not just musical specialists. You will look at Timbre, Dynamics, Rhythm and Structure.

You will then have a go at composing your own piece of music (in groups) linked to a special Picture the Music Create lesson that Philip will set up. It is great fun and extremely popular with everyone.

Requirements:

  • Session 1 and 2 will requires 1 PC/Mac for every 2/3 people.
  • Session 3 requires a basic set of classroom instruments.
