Using a multi sensory approach to create original poetry
Session 1: Generating Ideas
All creative thinking has to start with ideas. This session looks at ways to generate ideas using images and sounds. You will see how to use special templates to organise thoughts and generate phrases and sentences. You will discover:- How to create the right environment for poetry
- How to use simple thought maps to organise ideas
- How to develop more original and less cliched language
- How to bring the Thesaurus back into fashion!
Session 2: Activities and Games
The best way to get pupils into experimenting with language and trying out new ideas is to play games. This session looks at a number of tried and tested games to help with poetry. You will see how to use the thought map templates from Picture the Music Create to develop wonderfully original poetry.You will also see and hear a number of examples from the classroom and have an opportunity to try out ideas yourself.Session 3: Words and Sounds
Here you will discover how to create a poetry session that focuses on using sound sculpture and words around a theme. By using simple techniques you will see how it is possible to generate an effective, vibrant and creative performance piece. This is applicable for all ages in the school. You will learn:- How to use syllabic rhythms in music
- How timbre can determine mood
- How sound can be the starting point to poetry
