National strategy objective:
How do you feel? What do you see?
Picture:
sunset 2
Music:
31 soothing sounds

Notes

This is a very simple lesson based on asking the children simple questions. It’s great to get young children to talk about emotional responses to music.

In this lesson the purpose of the picture is to engage the children with the music.

Have the picture on full screen and ask the children what they can see. Can they see colours? Shapes? Anything else?

Explain that they are going to go ‘into’ the picture with some music. They are going to let the music take them to places in the picture. You want them to think about what they see when the music is playing. Explain to them that they are going to talk about what they have seen and how they have felt after the music has finished.

It is important that the children understand that they have to listen very carefully to the music. They must try and keep their thoughts in their heads until the sharing session.

OUTCOMES

  • They have listened carefully to a piece of music
  • They have looked closely at a picture
  • They have used their imagination
  • They have articulated what they saw and how they felt
